Bifurcation of elastoplastic pressure-sensitive spheres

چکیده
Instability of a full sphere, under uniform compression or tension, is investigated within the framework of linear bifurcation theory. Material response is modeled by a Hookean-type hypoelastic relation with pressure dependent instantaneous moduli. Exploiting a formal analogy with Navier equations of linear elasticity we obtain exact solution for the bifurcated field. Two families of eigenmodes and eigenvalues are identified and discussed. We examine, in particular, surface instabilities in compression, and twisting modes with absence of radial velocity. The results are further specified for pressure-sensitive plastic solids with an elliptic yield surface. The deformation theory prediction of bifurcation loads for that material are much lower than those obtained from the flow theory version. c © 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd

Strain-rate-dependent model for the dynamic compression of elastoplastic spheres.
We present a force-displacement contact model for the compressive loading of elastoplastic spheres. This model builds from the well known Hertz contact law for elastic, quasistatic compression to incorporate a material's strain-rate-dependent plasticity in order to describe collisions between particles. In the quasistatic regime, finite-element analysis is used to derive an empirical function o...
متن کاملSimulation study of Hemodynamic in Bifurcations for Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation using Electrical Analogy
Background and Objective: Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation (CAVM) hemodynamic is disease condition, results changes in the flow and pressure level in cerebral blood vessels. Measuring flow and pressure without catheter intervention along the vessel is big challenge due to vessel bifurcations/complex bifurcations in Arteriovenous Malformation patients. The vessel geometry in CAVM patients are...
متن کاملInstabilities and pattern transformation in periodic, porous elastoplastic solid coatings.
Pattern transformation in periodic microporous elastoplastic solid coatings is caused by a buckling of the struts and a rotation of the nodes under compressive stresses. The results of a nonlinear numerical investigation confirm the critical role of the bifurcation of the periodic solid under compressive stresses. In striking contrast to the earlier observations of elastic instabilities in poro...
متن کاملGeometry of Entangled States , Bloch Spheres and Hopf Fibrations
We discuss a generalization to 2 qubits of the standard Bloch sphere representation for a single qubit, in the framework of Hopf fibrations of high dimensional spheres by lower dimensional spheres. The single qubit Hilbert space is the 3-dimensional sphere S. The S base space of a suitably oriented S Hopf fibration is nothing but the Bloch sphere, while the circular fibres represent the qubit o...
متن کاملBuckling of Spherical Shells Revisited
A study is presented of the post-buckling behavior and imperfection-sensitivity of complete spherical shells subject to uniform external pressure. The study builds on and extends the major contribution to spherical shell buckling by W.T. Koiter in the 1960’s. Numerical results are presented for the axisymmetric large deflection behavior of perfect spheres followed by an extensive analysis of th...
